The D23 Expo currently being held in Japan, featured updates over the weekend from the parks and resorts division bringing news of exciting additions and updates on already announced attractions.
Here is our summary of Bob Chapeks announcements on what’s to come from around the world:
Walt Disney World Parks & Resort’s
News and updates emerging relating to the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction coming to Epcot have been scarce to date. With a unique story element in development by WDI it was also confirmed that the ride will feature an innovative new ride system that will be sure to “wow” guests and will also be one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world. There is still no firm opening date for the attraction however it will open sometime around 2021.
It was also announced that Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With a new technology that Disney is called 2 1/2-D which requires no wearable glasses it will also feature a new soundtrack created especially for the attraction.On the attraction, the fun begins when you see the premiere of a new cartoon short with Mickey and Minnie getting ready for a picnic. As they head out, they drive alongside a train and find out that the engineer is Goofy. Then, one magical moment let’s you step into the movie and on Goofy’s train for a wacky wild ride, putting you inside the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon short where you’re the star and anything can happen.
Also released was information and a video on the immersive Star Wars-inspired resort which is to be built which will be connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney parks blog reports that This first-of-its-kind resort will combine luxury with complete immersion into an authentic Star Wars story. Guests’ journey through space will start when everyone departs together for a multiday Stars Wars adventure by boarding a starship alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during a voyage through the galaxy.
At the resort, guests immediately become active citizens of the galaxy and can dress up in the proper attire. Every resort window will also have a view into space. The opportunity for immersion at this resort will also stand out among all Disney resorts around the globe, as it will be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, allowing guests a total Star Wars experience.
Additionally there was a small update on progress with Galaxy’s Edge. Announcing that guests will be able to explore a street market run by a Toydarian, a character first introduced in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” Among his wares will be handcrafted toys made by local artisans.
Disneyland Parks & ResortsFollowing its transformation, Pixar pier in Disney’s California adventure will officially open on the 23rd June 2018 and this will include the reimagined former California screamin’ returning as ‘Incredicoaster‘ – A “super combination of character figures, lighting and special effects that will bring the Parr family racing alongside you in a high-speed adventure”
The “Paint the night” parade will make its California Adventure Park debut when the first Pixar-fest kicks off on the 13th April, and in June it will add a dazzling new float to the line-up featuring Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone from “The Incredibles.”
This new float will bring all of the fun and excitement of the Incredibles’ world to life with high-tech, pop-art effects inspired by the mid-century-modern style of the films. Dynamic and innovative visual technology will also bring Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack to life, showcasing their powers in surprising ways!
Disneyland Paris Parks & Resorts
It was previously announced that the Hotel New York at Disneyland paris is being re-imagined to become “Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel”. A preview of the room design was released at the Expo for the resort which will debut in 2020.
Further marvel super hero additions will be added with the reimagining of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. With a total rework of the attraction, it will be emerge as a high-speed, hyper-kinetic adventure where guests will team up with Iron Man and their favourite Avengers.
Hong Kong Disneyland Parks & Resorts
Finally New images and details were released of the second Marvel Super Hero ride coming to Hong Kong Disneyland.
Replacing the current Buzz Lightyear’s Astroblasters will be a new attraction where guests will be invited to team up with Ant-Man and The Wasp to fight Arnim Zola and his army of Hydra swarm bots in a thrilling new adventure.
